Applying for Stolpersteine in Amsterdam

Who can request a Stolperstein?

  • Anyone can request a Stolperstein: family members, next of kin, residents, or those involved.
  • For whom?
    For victims of the Holocaust and the Nazi regime.
  • Requests are preferably made per family or address.
  • Next of kin
    (When requested by third parties, it is important to check if there are any next of kin.
    They often appreciate the initiative. Sometimes they want to be present at the placement. If there is objection within the family, no stone can be placed)

Application Process

  • You must submit an application via the web form
  • A volunteer will contact you when your application is up next (waiting times may vary)
  • The inscription text on the stone will be coordinated with you
  • The stone will be ordered (waiting times may vary); you will receive an invoice (€150 per stone)
  • The choice of installation date is by consultation
  • Placement of the stone(s) (once paid)
  • Please indicate on the form if there is urgency (e.g., due to the age of surviving relatives).

Placement

  • Stolpersteine are placed in front of the victim’s last residence
  • Placement takes place on the street, in public space
  • Everyone can be present
  • You can organize your own ceremony
  • Guidance by a volunteer
  • Execution by municipal road workers
  • Duration: ± 20 minutes
