Welcome to Stichting Stolpersteine Amsterdam

We keep alive the memory of people who became victims of National Socialism during the Second World War.

Stichting Stolpersteine Amsterdam participates in the international Stolpersteine project by the German artist Gunter Demnig. We coordinate the applications for and the placement of Stolpersteine in the Municipality of Amsterdam.

About us

What are Stolpersteine?

Stolpersteine are small memorial stones embedded in the pavement, placed at the last residence of people who became victims of the Nazi regime. Each stone bears a name, a date of birth, and the place where a person’s life was ended. In this way, passersby are reminded of who lived here and what happened.

The stones together form a network of memories in the streetscape. They bring stories back to the place where life unfolded, making the past visible in everyday life.
