Temporary Removal of Stolpersteine Due to Fibre-Optic Installation in Amsterdam City Centre

8 July 2026

During the spring and summer of 2026, a fibre optic network will be installed throughout Amsterdam’s city centre. The work is being carried out by KPN. Other telecommunications providers will make use of KPN’s network, which means that each street only needs to be opened once.
During these works, the Stolpersteine (Stumbling Stones) will be carefully protected. The regular paving team of the City of Amsterdam will temporarily remove the Stolpersteine, store them safely, and reinstall them in their original locations once the work has been completed.
Unfortunately, the contractors carrying out the fibre optic installation often work according to a schedule that changes in practice. As a result, we are unable to provide advance information about when a particular street will be worked on.
The paving teams working on behalf of KPN are aware that Stolpersteine may be present. Whenever they encounter or expect Stolpersteine, they notify the paving team of the City of Amsterdam so that the stones can be removed and reinstalled with the utmost care.
